Project Overview

The Daybreak TravelWise Pilot Project is part of the State of Utah TravelWise program and stems from the recently formed partnership between Rio Tinto and UDOT. The objective of the project is to develop, implement and evaluate TravelWise strategies that enable residents of Daybreak and employees of Rio Tinto to minimize vehicle miles traveled.

The project will evaluate up to six TravelWise strategies affecting travel patterns of residents of Daybreak and employees of the Rio Tinto Regional Center.

Current Status

So far, the project team has identified three TravelWise strategies focused on Daybreak residents, including:

  • a transportation fair
  • a community shuttle
  • a car-share program

Each of these strategies will be implemented as demonstration projects, and therefore, will be of a temporary nature. The transportation fair is the first strategy to be implemented, and is described in detail below. The community shuttle and car share programs are currently being developed. An announcement will be made after the transportation fair about the status of these other two demonstration projects.

Three additional TravelWise strategies will also be developed for employees of the Rio Tinto Regional Center. A survey of employees is currently underway and will help us develop these employee focused strategies in more detail.

Transportation Fair

WHAT: The fair is an outdoor educational and social forum for residents of Daybreak and employees of the Rio Tinto Regional Center to learn about alternative travel options.

WHEN: The fair will take place Friday September 25th from 4-7 p.m.

WHERE: The fair will take place at Linear Park which is just south of SoDa Row in the Daybreak community of South Jordan. The park is on the corner of Daybreak Rim Way and Kestrel Rise Road.

WHO: The following groups will be available to share information and answer questions about alternative travel options:

  • Daybreak TravelWise Management Coordinator
  • UDOT TravelWise Program
  • Utah Transit Authority
  • Representatives of local car-share, telework, and bike-share programs
  • Clear the Air Challenge
  • Utah Division of Environmental Quality
  • Kennecott Land Company
  • Daybreak Community Council

WHY: The objective is to educate people about different modes of transportation, to showcase the Daybreak TravelWise Pilot Project, and to answer questions about future transportation projects.

Daybreak TravelWise Coordinator

A Daybreak TravelWise Coordinator has been assigned to coordinate the project and act as a community resource for advancing TravelWise strategies.
