A new commuter benefit allows employees to deduct up to $230 per month from their gross income to pay for their mass transit commutes. Employees whose monthly mass transit fees are less than the $230 cap are allowed to deduct the full amount from their paychecks. The measure helps employers save money by lowering their payroll taxes. For more info click here.

Benefits of Transit

  • To the environment - reductions in rush-hour congestion, vehicle emissions and fuel consumption while improving air quality
  • To employers - reduced absenteeism, reduced employee turnover, and potential savings on employer payroll taxes
  • To employees - less wear and tear on vehicle, save money and stress on commute, sense that they are helping the environment

Getting started on a Transit program

  • Check with your company's human resources department or transit coordinator to learn about transit benefits that they offer (if they do not provide any, direct them to www.bestworkplaces.org/pdf/transitvan_07.pdf to learn more about options available to them).
  • Check with your local transit provider to determine the service available in your area. From Brigham City to Payson, Utah Transit Authority (UTA) provides local transit options.
  • Plan your trip by using the UTA Trip Planner at www.rideuta.com.
