State of Utah

In a statewide effort to cut energy use in Utah, Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. instituted a four-day workweek for state employees at the beginning of August 2008. This "Working for Utah" program was intended to provide better customer service to Utahns while reducing the amount of money employees must spend on gas per week. This change affected 23,000 State workers. In the first year, the program resulted in saving Utah $4.1 million due to reduced spending on energy, janitorial services and employee overtime.

Our office changed our business hours to be from 9 to 6 instead of the typical 8 to 5. This small shift has made a big difference in my commute since I now miss a lot of the rush hour traffic on my way to and from the office.
